Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn believes Jake Paul is making everyone take the bait.
Paul has turned some heads in the world of combat sports. The YouTube star is 3-0 as a pro boxer. He has wins over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, former NBA star Nate Robinson, and most recently, former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren.
Paul has drawn the ire of the boxing and MMA community but some believe the Internet sensation is a legit draw, who is making the most of his popularity. He hasn’t been shy in calling out MMA fighters for boxing matches but he’s turned his attention to Tyson Fury’s half-brother, Tommy.
Hearn promoted Paul’s pro boxing debut, so he knows a thing or two about dealing with him. During an interview with iFL TV, Hearn expressed his belief that Paul has his detractors right where he wants them.
Eddie Hearn gives his thoughts on Jake Paul in boxing…
— Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) April 26, 2021
“The one thing I’ll say about Jake Paul is he comes across as an absolute bellend, but he’s actually not. He’s alright but I’ve always found him alright. He’s on the wind-up, basically, and everybody’s biting.”
UFC President Dana White has even admitted that Paul has found a way to make his mark in the fight world.
“This is the right guy with the right shtick at the right time. This guy is playing this thing perfectly. And boxing is in such a bad place, they’re doing a really good job at sucking in people to buy into this thing. And good for him.”
