Eddie Hearn Speaks On Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury Being Signed
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has weighed in on the signing of Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury.
Fight fans have been clamoring to see Joshua vs. Fury. Both men hold the most prestigious titles in the heavyweight division. Joshua is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion. Fury holds the WBC and The Ring gold.
Speaking to ESPN’s Mark Kriegel, Hearn revealed that Joshua vs. Fury has been signed. The champions have agreed to a two-fight deal. A date and location for the first fight were not revealed.
Hearn told Kriegel that he hopes a location can be nailed down in the coming weeks.
“We’d like to get a site deal confirmed in the next month. The hard part is always getting everybody to put pen to paper. But this was a major effort from all parties to get this over the line. You had rival promoters, rival networks, and rival fighters.”
A recent interview with iFL TV saw Fury express doubt over the Joshua fight actually happening. Hearn said he’s unsure what to make of Fury’s comments.
“You never really know with Tyson. It could be mind games. He could be having a bad day. He could be a little pissed off. Or he could be having a joke.
“One of the fascinations about this fight will be the buildup because they’re two totally different characters, two totally different personalities. The mind games will be on another level for this fight. Tyson is very good at that. Anthony is excited by that… He’s so pumped, so focused, he hasn’t stopped training since the [Kubrat] Pulev fight [in December]. He’s like a caged lion. The buildup is going to be epic.”
FIGHT SPORTS will be providing updates on the Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury fight once those details are available.
