Eddie Hearn Speaks On Joshua-Pulev Confrontation During Staredown

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has weighed in on the tense confrontation between Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev during the staredown.

Joshua and Pulev tipped the scales for their December 12 title bout. “AJ” will be putting his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles. The title fight will be held inside the SSE Arena, Wembley in London, England. There will be a 1,000 capacity for fans in attendance.

Both men tipped the scales before fight night. Once Joshua and Pulev successfully made weight, the two engaged in a staredown. Things got heated between the two and words were exchanged.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn gave his take on what happened between Joshua and Pulev.

“That was probably the most intense weigh-in I’ve seen in Anthony Joshua’s career so far. Pulev was goading him while he walked up the stairs, goading him from the scales. He just reacted and he was ready to go right there. Both guys in great shape, both guys came in optimal weight. You have a classic heavyweight world championship fight tomorrow night and now with even more spite, even more importance.”

Hearn went on to reveal what Joshua and Pulev told each other during the exchange.

“It was cold. Sometimes you drag a fighter off the scales and they are shaking from a head-to-head with adrenaline. This was cold. Pulev kept saying to him, ‘I’m better than you, I will show you tomorrow night. AJ didn’t like it, he wanted to say his bit back and he said, ‘Tomorrow night I’ll humble you and I will knock you out.'”
