Eddie Hearn has expressed his commitment to arranging a rematch between Dmitry Bivol and Canelo Alvarez in September.
Reports indicate that the major stumbling block hindering the negotiations is the weight class. Canelo has made it clear that he is looking to rematch Bivol on the same terms in the light-heavyweight division.
However, the latter has stressed that he would only want a rematch at 168 lbs to pursue the Mexican’s undisputed titles, having beaten Canelo so comprehensively at light heavyweight.
Therefore, there is a chance that other fighters could step into contention. Names such as David Benavidez, and David Morrell Jr. are just some of the names that have been bandied about.
And given that Canelo has been linked with fighting the ‘Mexican Monster’ for so long, his options may be limited. But as for Hearn, he kept coy on the alternatives.
“We have the fight in September that we’re planning, and if we can’t deliver the Dmitry Bivol fight, we’ll present him with other options. If we can’t get him Dmitry Bivol or if he doesn’t like those other options, I’m sure he’ll talk to other people. So we have to deliver what he wants, as always,” Hearn
