Eddie Hearn Weighs In On Possible Charlo vs. Andrade Fight
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has spoken out on a potential champion vs. champion bout between Jermall Charlo and Demetrius Andrade.
Charlo holds the WBC Middleweight Championship, while Andrade has the WBO gold. Many have been calling for Charlo to get a major fight with the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin. Fellow undefeated titleholder at middleweight, Andrade, also fits the bill.
Hearn held a live stream answering questions from fans. One of those questions was on the possibility of Charlo vs. Andrade. Hearn expressed his belief that the matchup should happen (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“For me, the fight to make is Andrade against Charlo. I saw Charlo’s tweet last night, saying whatever it was saying, he wants to unify like his brother. There is an easy fight to be made there, Charlo against Andrade. People say Andrade don’t fight these guys — no one wants to fight him but he’s a world champion ready to unify. So Andrade against Charlo, yes please.”
Charlo is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Sergey Derevyanchenko. Many are in agreement that Charlo had more success against Derevyanchenko than Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs did. The victory improved Charlo’s perfect pro boxing record to 31-0.
As for Andrade, he successfully defended his WBO gold against Luke Keeler back in January. Andrade emerged victorious via ninth-round TKO. Andrade’s record stands at 29-0.
Time will tell whether or not a bout the magnitude of Charlo vs. Andrade will come to fruition next. It would certainly be a high-profile fight in the middleweight division.
