Eddy Reynoso: Andy Ruiz Will Become Champion Again
Andy Ruiz’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, believes another title reign looms.
Back in June 2019, Ruiz shocked the world when he stopped Anthony Joshua to become the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion. Joshua won the titles back in their December 2019 rematch via unanimous decision.
Ruiz will be back in action on May 1. He’ll take on Chris Arreola in the main event of a PBC on FOX PPV card.
During a virtual media workout, Reynoso told reporters that he thinks Ruiz will hold championship gold once again (via BoxingScene.com).
“The most important thing for Andy is the discipline and his mentality. Those are the main aspects we’ve been working on. From there, we have the building blocks to get better each and every day with everything we want to do. The talent and intelligence has always been there for Andy. It’s a pleasure to work with him. He’s done everything I’ve asked of him so far.
“I’m really excited for this fight. You’re going to see a new Andy Ruiz Jr. both physically and mentally. You’re going to see him become champion again. I can’t wait for this step on May 1. It’s definitely going to be a tough fight against Arreola. These are two fighters who had the same upbringing. There’s going to be nowhere to hide in the ring and they’re going to bring out the best in each other.”
Ruiz has made some adjustments ahead of his in-ring return. He’s shed a significant amount of weight since his last showdown with Joshua.
