Eddy Reynoso: I Don’t Think Anyone Will Underestimate Ryan Garcia Again
Trainer Eddy Reynoso believes people will refrain from overlooking Ryan Garcia’s toughness.
Garcia is fresh off a knockout victory over Luke Campbell, who many were saying was his toughest test to date. Garcia had to battle through adversity after being knocked down with a flush punch to the jaw in the second round. Garcia wasn’t fazed and kept pushing the action until he stopped Campbell in the seventh round with a body shot.
Garcia’s trainer, Reynoso, told The Sun that the newly-minted interim WBC Lightweight Champion isn’t likely to be underestimated going forward.
“The way Ryan reacted, after he was dropped, really surprised me. It showed that Ryan has big balls and a lot of qualities.
“The way Ryan reacted, after he was dropped, really surprised me. It showed that Ryan has big balls and a lot of qualities. The Ryan Garcia that I knew before that fight, I knew was very disciplined and very talented but you only see the capabilities and capacities of a fighter when they are in a crash situation, that is when you see the true character of a fighter.
“The best champions in the world, in history, are the ones who have done it in crash situations, when they have been knocked down or hurt and got up to win. That is what we saw with Ryan Garcia and it made us very proud. Before the Luke Campbell fight people were underestimating Ryan so after showing what he did, I don’t think anyone ever will again.”
Garcia is targeting a showdown with Gervonta Davis despite having the right to meet WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney. The rising star says belts don’t matter to him but major legacy-building fights do.
