Edgar Berlanga Booked Vs. Alexis Angulo In ESPN Main Event
Edgar Berlanga gets another shot at silencing his doubters.
Berlanga (19-0, 16 KOs) will take on Alexis Angulo (27-2, 23 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight bout on June 11 at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York.
The ESPN televised main event will run the night before Manhattan, New York’s annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Berlanga last fought against Steve Rolls on March 19 and won by unanimous decision. But a number of boxing fans argued that Berlanga didn’t win convincingly, especially after the 24-year-old rose to popularity in both the sport and on social media.
The win came after Berlanga had surgery to repair a torn left biceps, which he sustained in his prior bout against Marcelo Coceres, who he defeated also by a 10-round unanimous decision.
Angulo’s only blemishes on his resume come from former super middleweight champions David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez.
In the winning column, Angulo scored an upset win against previously undefeated Anthony Sims Jr by split decision in January 2020.
