Edgar Berlanga Returns To Action On December 12
The next bout for rising star Edgar Berlanga has been set.
Berlanga, a Puerto Rican super-middleweight prospect who has yet to go to the second round, will meet Ulises Sierra on December 12. The fight will be a part of a tripleheader on ESPN. Headlining the card will be a junior-lightweight bout between Shakur Stevenson and Toka Khan Clary. In the co-main event, Felix Verdejo will clash with Masayoshi Nakatani.
Here’s what Top Rank Boxing‘s Bob Arum had to say in a press release on Berlanga’s next fight.
“Edgar Berlanga has a unique blend of power and charisma, and I believe he is the next Puerto Rican superstar,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Ulises Sierra is the toughest test of Edgar’s career. Who knows if that will make a difference? We’ve tried to get the kid some rounds before, but once Edgar hurts his opponents, it’s game over.”
Sierra brings with him a pro boxing record of 15-1-2. He hasn’t been knocked out as a professional. Meanwhile for Berlanga, his record is 15-0 and all of those wins have ended in the first round via knockout.
In his last outing, Berlanga took on Lanell Bellows. The up-and-coming 168-pounder was able to score a first-round TKO victory.
