Edgar Berlanga Targets March 2022 Return After Torn Left Biceps
The rising super middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga will be sidelined for approximately three months.
Berlanga underwent surgery to repair a torn biceps in his left arm this Wednesday in Stamford, Connecticut. Now, Berlanga and his team are expected to make a return to the ring in March 2022.
Berlanga was in action earlier this month against Marcelo Esteban Coceres.
The 24-year-old didn’t have the easiest of time as Coceres took the fight to him and made him work hard to earn the decision victory.
In the process, Berlanga suffered the injury in the third round, which on further investigation, came out to be a torn biceps in his left arm.
This was Berlanga’s second consecutive fight that went to the distance.
Earlier this year, he went to hear the final bell against Demond Nicholson, but that victory came in at a dominant fashion as Berlanga scored four knockdowns in that bout.
“When it tore, it recoiled all the way to the top of the biceps, which is highly unusual. It wrapped up into a ball,” his manager Keith Connolly told ESPN. “The surgery was supposed to last an hour. It took 2.5 hours.”
“The Chosen One” was scheduled to make his return this December on the undercard of Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Richard Commey, but with the injury to his arm, he’ll have to wait until March 2022.
