Edgar Replaces Ortega vs. Korean Zombie

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung did not have to wait long to get a replacement opponent for UFC Busan, as former lightweight champion and featherweight title challenger Frankie Edgar has agreed to step up.

Per an initial report from ESPN, Edgar will be replacing Brian Ortega after Ortega tore his ACL in training. It was to be Ortega’s first fight since losing for the first time as a pro at UFC 231 in December 2018 against featherweight champion Max Holloway.

Edgar was last seen in action at UFC 240, losing his own featherweight title fight with Holloway.

Edgar was planning to move down to bantamweight and face Cory Sandhagen in his 135-pound debut at UFC Raleigh on January 25. The UFC is hoping to keep Edgar vs. Sandhagen on that card but is looking at backup options for Sandhagen.

The UFC was focused on keeping Jung on the card due to his popularity in his native South Korea. It will be his first time competing in the country since 2008.

Jung last competed in June, defeating Renato Moicano in just 58 seconds in the UFC Greenville main event.

UFC Busan takes place on December 21 at the Sajik Arena in Busan, South Korea.
