Edwards, Buatsi Pick Up Wins At Copper Box Arena
Charlie Edwards had a successful first world title defense at the Copper Box Arena.
Edwards retained his WBC flyweight world title against Spanish fighter Angel Moreno with a wide unanimous decision victory. Edwards won with all three judges scoring the bout 120-107 in favor of the champion.
The fight was mostly one-sided with Edwards’ speed being the deciding factor on several rounds. Edwards outboxed Moreno from start to end but Moreno was more than willing to trade with Edwards. Despite Moreno wanting to brawl with the world champion, Edwards wasn’t in any danger at any point in the fight.
In the co-main event, rising light heavyweight contender Joshua Buatsi moved one step closer to world title contention with a quick win over former English champion Liam Conroy. Buatsi took control early and asserted himself as the stronger puncher, dropping him in the third round with a series of left hands.
Buatsi then connected on a left hook to the chin that had Conroy’s legs wobbly and Buatsi knocked him out with a right hand to the chin. Conroy got back up but was unable to properly respond to the referee’s orders after getting up and so the fight was called off. Buatsi now adds the BBBofC British light heavyweight title to his growing collection of titles.
