EFC 56 Results: Du Plessis & Bahati Retain Titles
EFC 56 has wrapped up, and the action-packed card in Johannesburg, South Africa saw two champions retain their titles in spectacular fashion.
In the co-main event, middleweight champion Yannick Bahati proved his status atop the division with a vicious second-round TKO over David Buirski. Bahi and Buirski had engaged in some venomous trash talk leading up to the fight, but Bahati proved to be the stronger opponent.
Buirski, moving up for welterweight, proved to be a formidable opponent on the feet but was no match for Bahati’s top control and ground-and-pound. The hometown fighter Buirski succumbed to strikes on the ground midway through the second round.
The main event saw South African welterweight champion Dricus Du Plessis take on Polish fighter Rafal Haratyk. The two fighters engaged in a high-octane first round, each landing a number of significant strikes in the bout’s opening five minutes.
Ultimately, Du Plessis was able to survive Haratyk’s attempted guillotines in the next round and turn the tables, submitting "The Polish Tank" to prove that he remains a force to be reckoned with on the EFC roster.
