Eimantas Stanionis And Vergil Ortiz To Headline On March 18
It's reportedly scheduled to happen in Texas.
WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs) and the WBO International welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz are set to headline the DAZN Show in Texas.
According to the reports from BoxingScene.com, a date and a location were finalized for Ortiz’s fight against Stanionis. The highly anticipated bout will take place on March 18, with the venue yet to be decided.
ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger was the first to report about this potential fight.
This fight will mark the defense of Stanionis’ secondary WBA belt. The Lithuanian boxer defeated Radzhab Butaev in a twelve-round decision win on April 16 in Texas. This fight came on the Errol Spence-Yordenis Ugas undercard.
It was the main event after the 28-year-old agreed to pull back from a shot at Ugas, who held the WBA super welterweight title.
Stanionis continues his waiting game, whereas Spence has opportunities around the corner. The reigning WBC/WBA’ Super/IBF champ is set for an undisputed welterweight championship clash against WBO title-holder Terence Crawford.
He wants the WBA to enforce his long-due title shot after the talks for Spence-Crawford collapsed.
Stanionis will head over to the Dallas area for the second consecutive fight against the crowd favourite. Ortiz will fight in front of his home supporters for the fifth time in his career.
