Eimantas Stanionis has hit out at Golden Boy Promotions in the aftermath of his fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr. being canceled.
Ortiz Jr. pulled out of his scheduled fight against Stanionis on July 8th, 2023, before the pre-fight presser.
The setback was disappointing as the fight had been delayed multiple times. Initially scheduled for March 18th, 2023, the fight was postponed due to Stanionis’ emergency appendectomy.
It was then rescheduled for April 29th, 2023, but Ortiz Jr. couldn’t participate due to rhabdomyolysis.
This time, Ortiz Jr.’s hospitalization was reportedly due to him fainting after struggling to make 147.
Although that was out of Golden Boy’s control, Stanionis’ treatment in the aftermath did not sit very well with him.
Stanionis expanded on how the promotional company didn’t compensate his training costs and travel arrangements once the fight was called off.
Reaction
“I am very mad at Golden Boy, you know, because they treated us very terrible…I came to the hotel and we sat down and basically they told me fight is off.
“I said ‘maybe they will find some replacement’ or something, just to give me a fight, or after a week or two on another show. And they said ‘no.
“So I asked also about compensation. I said ‘I spent a lot of money on the training camp.’ And they just ignore the fact. Everybody just left me and my team like that, they didn’t care…I don’t respect Golden Boy, that’s for sure,” Stanionis
