Eimantas Stanionis Vs. Vergil Ortiz Purse Bid Set For Dec 12

They were ordered to fight in November.

The purse bid for the fight between Eimantas Stanionis and Vergil Ortiz Jr will go to a purse bid on December 12 (Monday), according to the WBA.

In its order that was released in November, the sanctioning body also declared that the winner of the Stanionis vs Ortiz fight will square off against the winner of the showdown between Errol Spence Jr and Keith Thurman.

Since Stanionis (14-0, 9 KO) is the titlist here, he will receive 75% of the bid, while Ortiz (19-0, 19 KO) gets the rest. PBC backs Stanionis, whereas Ortiz showcases his talent under the Golden Boy’s banner.

Both promotions are known for pursuing rights aggressively. If they can’t work out a deal by Monday, the auction price will likely come in well above the minimum bid of $200,000.

This is a step towards unifying the “world” belt that Stanionis holds and the “super” belt that Spence possesses.

Not many boxing fans believed that the WBA was serious about its plan to consolidate the belts in 2021, but the latest order is seemingly a positive step towards the goal of controlling the increasing number of world titles.

This is Stanionis’s first title defense since he clinched his title world” belt from Radzhab Butaev in April.
