Ellerbe: De La Hoya Is A Joke

In the wake of Oscar De La Hoya claiming that not only was he training for a comeback, but that he wants to fight Conor McGregor, many people in Boxing are panning De La Hoya’s comments. Not because the 44 year old has not fought in nearly a decade, but because De La Hoya was the biggest critic of McGregor’s fight with Floyd Mayweather in August of 2017.

And in an interview with the Boxing channel, Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonadr Ellerbe expressed his confusion.

“This guy… he trashed our fight, he sent an open letter to the fans encouraging them not to buy our fight. And he did tons of interviews to trash the fight. Go sit down somewhere, it ain’t happening.”

Ellerbe also made light of De La Hoya’s long running feud with Mayweather Promotions’ name sake Floyd Mayweather. The two have had a contentious relationship, including when Mayweather defeated Oscar De La Hoya in May of 2007.

“He’s wanted to be like Floyd his whole career. You’re not Floyd, you’re not Floyd. You’ve gotta move past that. At this point the fans are laughing at you. He’s making a mockery out of himself.”
