Emanuel Navarrete Vs. Eduardo Baez Scheduled For August 20
One of the world’s best active featherweights has his next fight set.
Emanuel Navarrete will defend his WBO featherweight title against Eduardo Baez in the main event at Pechanga Arena in San Diego on August 20.
“…The inactivity of these last eight months has served to give my body the rest it needed and to reflect on many things,” Navarrete said.
“Now I’m coming back stronger physically and mentally. I’m going to show that I’m ready to fight any champion at 126 or 130 pounds. There will be a lot of ‘Vaquero’ for a long time.”
Navarrete (35-1, 29 KOs) has won 35 fights and has had just one slip up. That came early on in his pro career against Daniel Argueta by unanimous decision in July 2012. But since then, he’s gone on a 30-fight winning streak.
The two-weight champion opened up with a pair of wins against Isaac Dogboe. He defended that junior featherweight title five times before moving up to featherweight.
He won the vacant WBO featherweight title in his debut against Ruben Villa by unanimous decision.
Baez (21-2-2, 7 KOs) is the No. 7 ranked featherweight contender.
He recently moved up to the division after running through the junior featherweight division, which included a Mexican title.
He lost to Mauricio Lara in 2017. But went onto a winning streak that lasted up until November 2021 when he ran into Ra’eese Aleem and lost by majority decision.
He got back into the winning column by overcoming Jose Enrique Durantes Vivas in March by majority decision.
Nico Ali Walsh – the grandson of Muhammad Ali – will be on the undercard to face Reyes Sanchez in a rematch of their December 2021 fight where Ali Walsh walked away with a majority decision win.
