Ennis No Longer Interested In Ortiz Fight

Jaron Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) has closed the door on a fight with Vergil Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22 KOs) for the foreseeable future, with his father and trainer Derek Ennis making clear the Texan is no longer a priority after months of stalled negotiations.

Ennis became a two-weight unified champion last month, stopping Xander Zayas in the seventh round to capture the WBA and WBO junior-middleweight titles.

The Philadelphia native had previously been linked to a fight with Ortiz, but negotiations stalled amid Ortiz’s contractual dispute with Golden Boy Promotions. Ortiz has since settled the dispute and renewed his interest in facing Ennis following the Zayas victory, but Bozy said his team is currently focused on other opponents.

“We are not even thinking about him now. He made us wait. Boots got in the ring and said, ‘we gotta fight, sign the contract,’ and then all of a sudden, him and De La Hoya fell out. Now, they are all back together again, so what do you think that was? At the time, they must not have wanted to fight him, but you wanna sound off on him? Telling him to come on up in the ring and all of that stuff? I ain’t sitting here talking bad about him but that is the way that it seems to everybody now. So, he is on the back burner,” Bozy
