Ennis Vs Fundora 2026 Unification Fight Suffers Major Setback

Talks for a three-belt junior middleweight unification between Jaron Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) and WBC champion Sebastian Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) have hit an obstacle, with Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz confirming his fighter will first fulfill his WBC mandatory obligation against Ermal Hadribeaj first, meaning any fight must happen in 2027.

“Sebastian Fundora will comply with the WBC and face his No. 1 mandatory next. A fight with Ennis could happen, but some time next year,” Lewkowicz

The news comes after Ennis stopped Xander Zayas in seven rounds last Saturday to unify the WBA and WBO titles at 154 pounds and become a two-weight world champion. Reports had suggested talks for a November or December showdown with Fundora were already underway, but the mandatory situation has pushed that timeline back.

Fundora last fought in March, becoming the first man to stop Keith Thurman, and has also defended his WBC belt against Chordale Booker and Tim Tszyu in a rematch. The winner of Ennis vs. Fundora secures three of the four major junior middleweight titles, meaning one belt away from undisputed.
