Erin Blanchfield Sets Record With UFC 269 Win, Ready For Any Next Opponent
Blanchfield shone as she eased into the fight in a flyweight encounter between two young potential talents.
Blanchfield (9-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) used her wrestling to put Miranda Maverick (9-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) to the mat with minimal resistance throughout the fight, breaking the women’s flyweight record most takedowns in a bout.
“I started in no-gi (Brazilian jiu-) jitsu and kickboxing. I got into wrestling more when I started fighting MMA, but it kind of came natural to me. I’m good in the clinch. I feel strong there, and I’ve learned a lot of techniques. I’m very technical there, so I feel like it kind of comes off easy in my fights,” Blanchfield said.
“I know I’m young, but I have a lot of experience in this game, and I think I’ll take the steps that I need. I know when I get to that fight, I’ll be ready for it.”
Even if her next opponent would be Maycee Barber, Blanchfield said she’ll be ready.
“I know she was hurt. I don’t know how long she’s going to be out for, so I’m not going to really wait around for people,” she added. “I’ll just see whoever they want me to fight next.”
