Errol Spence Jr. Eyeing Manny Pacquiao Showdown
Errol Spence Jr. has a big fight with Manny Pacquiao in his sights.
Spence is the WBC and IBF Welterweight Champion. He is scheduled to put his gold on the line against Danny Garcia on December 5. The title fight will be held inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. There will be fans in attendance.
Spence is the favorite going into that bout and if he handles business as expected, then he hopes to be in prime position for a massive fight. On that list is “PacMan.” Here’s what Spence told The Sun.
“After this fight, of course I would like to fight Manny Pacquiao. He’s on his way out so I’d love to have that fight. He’s a living legend, and I’ve never fought someone of that caliber. He’s big and not just a boxing star, he’s an icon, a mega-star. That would be different and it would send me somewhere else popularity-wise. Pacquiao has been in the sport 20-something years, he’s an icon even outside the sport. Everybody knows who Manny Pacquiao is. That would be a great fight for me.”
Spence is looking to not only retain his gold against Garcia but also keep his undefeated record intact. Going into the title fight, Spence has a perfect pro boxing record of 26-0. He hasn’t competed since his October 10, 2019 car accident.
As for Pacquiao, his last outing was back on July 20, 2019. He defeated Keith Thurman via split decision to become the WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion. There are rumblings of a potential clash between Pacquiao and Conor McGregor inside the boxing ring.
