Errol Spence Jr. Eyeing Three Fights In 2021
Errol Spence Jr. is looking to stay active next year.
Spence is coming off a successful title defense of his WBC and IBF Welterweight gold against Danny Garcia. Spence won the fight via unanimous decision. The title fight took place inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Over 16,000 fans were in attendance, which was a reduced capacity.
Speaking to The Gleaner, Spence discussed what went right against Garcia (via BoxingScene.com).
“They told me to use my jabs and my boxing skills against Shawn, but I made the hype get to me, and went toe-to-toe with him most of the way. I ended up with a split decision and on reflection, I see where I could have thrown that fight away. Saturday I listened to them, and won comfortably.
“When I heard the ring announcer say, ‘the winner and still champion’, the feeling of joy that I felt was even more satisfying than when I was declared champion for the first time back in May 2017. I am back and 2021 will be a busy year.”
Spence’s father added that his son is looking to stay busy in 2021.
“We would like to have about three fights next year.”
The question remains, who is next for Spence? Many have been clamoring to see Spence take on WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford but both men are at odds over the payout. Spence wants a 60/40 split, while Crawford’s team is asking for 50/50.
There’s also WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao. Spence hasn’t been shy in expressing interest in a showdown with “PacMan.”
