Errol Spence Jr. Retires From Boxing Following Unanimous Decision Loss To Tim Tszyu

In his first match in almost three years, Errol Spence Jr. fell short on the judges’ scorecards to Tim Tszyu, who earned the unanimous decision at home in tonight’s main event in Sydney, Australia.

Spence was competitive for a good portion of the fight, but in the later rounds he slowed down, making it clear that Tszyu was sitting on a bigger gas tank by that stage. In most exchanges, both were able to land clean shots, but it seemed the punches were affecting Spence the most, as Tszyu began to put on a display of power in the back half of the match.

While Spence showed great heart in his much anticipated return following his 2023 loss to Terence Crawford in their undisputed welterweight title match, he could not deal with the speed and power of Tszyu, who was awarded the hard-earned decision victory.

Following the match, Spence announced his retirement from professional boxing, citing that he is looking forward to “living that family life” away from the sport. Additionally, Spence commented on the importance of retiring at the right time, while he still has his health.

During Tszyu’s post-fight interview, he showed a great deal of respect for Spence, and while he would like to face the current WBA middleweight world champion Erislandy Lara, he says his victory tonight “tops any world title”.
