Errol Spence Jr Was Dropped By Insurance Company After Second Car Crash

Errol Spence Jr.’s serious one-car crash in October 2019 wasn’t the only accident he got into.

Spence revealed that just three months after the crash, he got into another accident. As a result, his insurance ended up dropping him, the WBC and IBF welterweight champion told FOX Sports.

“I actually got into another accident three months after my accident,” Spence said.

“Somebody hit me from behind. … So, it shook me up, like, ‘That’s messed up.’ But like my insurance company kicked me off my insurance because it was a G-Wagon. It was like, ‘He messed up a Ferrari.’ And then I had a [Mercedes-Benz] G-Wagon, 4-by-4. So, they came out of [pocket] like $600,000 in like five, six months, because they paid me outright for both of the cars.

“… Yeah, they kicked me out the insurance.”

In the October 2019 accident, Spence’s Ferrari flipped multiple times in the early morning hours in downtown Dallas. The crash could’ve cost not only his career, but his life.

He came out with cuts, scrapes and bruises on his face and body and damaged his teeth. He was put on probation after he was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated.

Spence was able to return to the ring on December 5, 2020 and successfully defended his titles against Danny Garcia.

Then, Spence locked in a fight with the legendary Manny Pacquiao. News then broke just days before the welterweight championship saying that Spence was forced out due to a detached left retina.

But now, Spence has assured the media that he is in shape and ready to return to the ring. He will be ending a 16-month hiatus when he faces Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas, who was Spence’s replacement against Pacquiao. Ugas won via unanimous decision.

The unification title fight takes place on April 16 at the AT&T Stadium and will air on a Showtime pay-per-view main event.
