Errol Spence Still Up For Thurman Fight
Even though Keith Thurman last fought over a year ago against Danny Garcia, underwent elbow surgery, and would need to cancel his March fight due to a hand injury, Errol Spence Jr. is still interested in facing him.
Thurman dismissed the idea late last year when the then WBA and WBC welterweight champion would consider fighting Spence sometime in 2019, but the IBF champion wants the fight to happen and wants to do it before any talk of a fight with new WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
“Well, I’m definitely interested in that fight,” Spence said of facing Thurman during a conference call Tuesday. “I think that’s the fight, you know, that it’ll be easier to make because we have the same management [Al Haymon] and we fight on the same network [Showtime]. So we deal with the same people, business-wise, so I feel like that fight is easier to make.
“So that’s definitely a fight I’ve been wanting, the fight that I still want when he comes back. You know, seeing how he comes back and how many tune-up fights that he needs to feel the same.”
While Spence awaits mandatory opponent Carlos Ocampo on June 15th for his IBF title in Dallas, Thurman may end his layoff on August 4th against an undetermined opponent.
And while Thurman still holds the WBA welterweight title, he was stripped earlier in June of his WBC title, due to inactivity.
