Eubank Dominates Smith, Stops Him In Tenth To Get Revenge

Tonight in Manchester, Live from the AO Arena, Chris Eubank Jr delivered a performance that completely overwhelmed Liam Smith, avenging the fourth round loss that he suffered in their January encounter.

From start to finish, Eubank controlled this match and delivered heavy punches in volume, primarily finding success with his combination punching and powerful uppercuts. While Smith was finding a way to avoid a good amount of his opponent’s shots, the ones that would connect were clearly affecting his ability to find any kind of rhythm in this fight.

While the bout did make it to the tenth round, the fourth really served as a sharp turning point as Eubank connected with a well-timed right uppercut, set up beautifully by the jab, that dropped Smith to the canvas for the first time of the night. Shaken, but not out, Smith quickly made it to his feet, but this was the first sign of the beginning of the end for this high level middleweight matchup.

For the next five rounds, Smith survived, but did not look himself. In addition to the cut above his right eye clearly affecting him, he seemed to be having some balance trouble at different times in the match, and even rolled his ankle at one point. With very little output, Smith’s approach became more and more defensive as the fight progressed. Conversely, Eubank began to step on the gas and punish his opposition in an accelerated fashion.

Eubank walked out of his corner with one thing on his mind in round 10, the finish. With a stepping jab-cross, followed by a barrage of heavy uppercuts and hooks, Eubank cornered Smith, and dropped him to the ring floor once again.

Smith found the strength to rise from the canvas for a second time, but his night was nearly done. Eubank pressured him to the ropes and began to unload. It only took the connection of a few additional punches in between Smith’s slip attempts for the referee to feel the urge to intervene.

Following the dominating display of revenge that Eubank unleashed, he went on to call out Conor Benn, Kell Brook, and even threw the idea of a fight with former unified world champion Gennady Golovkin in the mix.
