Ex-Heavyweight Champ Riddick Bowe Mistaken On PPV Broadcast
Boxing fans who purchased the PPV broadcast for the recent showdown between Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin were shocked when the broadcaster focused on a completely different man to introduce the former undisputed heavyweight champion, Riddick Bowe.
‘Big Daddy’ Bowe attended the Ortiz-Martin fight where he rubbed shoulders with Premier Boxing Champions and FOX PPV organizers at ringside. The 52-year-old is a well-known face of the industry despite only ruling the heavyweight division in the 1990s, but the director of the televised portion got it all wrong when it came to showing Bowe on the big screen.
A few minutes later, the broadcast focused on the correct Bowe, but the damage had been done by then.
One fan who purchased the PPV said: “WTF! That’s his stunt double, not Riddick at all!”
Another fan said: “If you look up all-time great, there’s an actual picture of Riddick Bowe. How can somebody in charge of a Pay Per View event get it that wrong?”
Last year, Bowe sent the media in a frenzy when he signed up for an exhibition match.
He was later removed from the card after social media’s uproar for roping him in since Bowe had left regular training a long time ago and he was completely out of shape.
Days later, the return of 59-year-old Evander Holyfield showed the community why it was important to keep Bowe at bay at this age.
