Ex-NFL Pro Bowlers Adrian Peterson, Le’Veon Bell Will Fight In Boxing Exhibition In July
These two ex-NFL Pro Bowl running backs are trying their hands at boxing.
Le’Veon Bell and Adrian Peterson will fight in a heavyweight boxing exhibition on July 30 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, ESPN reported Monday evening. The contracts have already been signed.
Since it is an exhibition match, the outcome will not be counted, nor will they be debuting professionally.
Peterson, 37, set an NFL record as a rookie for most rushing yards in a single game (296) and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He became the fifth player in NFL history to have more than 3,000 yards through his first two seasons.
But after tearing his ACL and MCL in 2011 and getting indicted on charges of reckless injury to a child in 2014, his career slowed down. He entered 2017 as a free agent and has signed short contracts with multiple teams. He is still a free agent.
Bell, 30, had a league-high 321 carries for 1,291 yards in 2017 and had made his third Pro Bowl appearance in his career. He refused to become franchise tagged by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which forced him to sit out the 2018 season.
He also had short-term contracts with multiple teams and is currently a free agent.
Bell and Peterson will be following in the footsteps of fellow All-Pro running back Frank Gore, who fought in an exhibition match against NBA All-Star Deron Williams on the December undercard of Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2.
Gore then made his pro debut in May and won via fourth-round knockout.
As for Bell and Peterson, they will meet on the undercard of Social Gloves 2, an event promoted by popular YouTuber Austin McBroom. Rapper Blueface will also be featured on the undercard against former NBA player Nick Young.
McBroom will be fighting fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib in the main event.
