Eye-Calvillo To Reportedly Headline June 13 UFC Event
An extremely interesting flyweight matchup will main event an upcoming June card for the UFC. According to ESPN, Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo will face off on June 13, with a location to be revealed soon.
Eye (15-7, 1NC) is looking to stay in title contention. Following a one-sided loss against Valentina Shevchenko last June for the UFC Flyweight Championship, Eye rebounded with a win over Viviane Araujo at UFC 245 in December. She won the bout via unanimous decision, despite missing weight. “Evil” is 4-1 in her last five fights.
This will be Calvillo’s (8-1-1) debut at flyweight following a run in the strawweight division. Calvillo has missed weight twice while fighting in the division, most notably her recent bout against Marina Rodriguez. Back in December, the two fought to a majority decision draw at catchweight. Her original opponent, Claudia Gadelha, had to back out due to an injury.
Calvillo is 2-1-1 in her last four fights. Ranked tenth in the UFC’s strawweight rankings, the 32-year-old is looking to make an immediate impact in a new division. Eye is first in the flyweight rankings.
The UFC is looking to host events inside the APEX Center in Nevada. This all depends on the ruling by the Nevada Athletic Commission later this week regarding combat sports.
Here is the updated card for the UFC’s June 13 event:
- Jessica Eye v. Cynthia Calvillo
- Marvin Vettori v. Karl Roberson
