Fans Disappointed With McGregor vs. Chandler Fight Poster

Fans have been left unimpressed with the fight poster for Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler.

McGregor and Chandler face off on June 29 at UFC 303. The fight has long been discussed since their rivalry on the TUF 31 series. McGregor has his first fight since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. The Irishman will return from a career-threatening leg injury, leaving question marks over whether he will be the same fighter. Chandler also took a risk by not fighting since his loss to Poirier in 2022. Chandler decided to wait for the McGregor fight rather than taking fights in between, as the inactivity could backfire. The event in Vegas is likely to sell out.

The poster has not lived up to the pre-fight hype. The UFC faced similar criticism over its UFC 300 poster. However, the event was a major success, generating the third-highest gate of all time at $16.5 million. It also produced one of the most iconic moments when Max Holloway stopped Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 with a second left to win the BMF Belt. The UFC will be hoping for a similar event.

New UFC Gloves

However, the new UFC gloves have gone down well. The gloves will debut at UFC 302 on June 1, featuring the headline event between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier. The gloves were introduced to address the issue of fighters being poked through the older gloves. At UFC Atlantic City on March 30, Nursulton Ruziboev beat Sedriques Dumas in a first-round stoppage. However, the events leading to the stoppage started with an eye poke.

On the same card, Chris Weidman secured his first win over Bruno Silva, but Weidman poked Silva numerous times. The result was overturned from a TKO into a technical unanimous decision win. Poirier has tried the new gloves and praised the innovation.

“I like them. They’re a lot easier to make a closed fist. The problem with the old UFC gloves, they were kind of built flat.  We’d have to roll them up in the back and make it easier because your forearm gets full of blood.  It’s like you’re straining to make a closed first with those other ones. These are a lot softer.  I know that they’re lighter. They’re just easier to make a closed fist. I like them better,” Poirier stated
