Farmer Focused On Regaining His Title Against Diaz
When it comes to future fights for Tevin Farmer, the former IBF Super-Featherweight Champion has only one name on his mind: Joesph Diaz.
Farmer (30-5-1, NC) lost his first fight since 2012 back in January, when Diaz (30-5-1, NC) outperformed him to win the title via unanimous decision. There was drama just a few days before the Super Bowl. Now, Farmer is ready to bring some more drama into the ring. Stating he wasn’t himself in the fight, he automatically requested a rematch. Farmer is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure it happens.
Diaz and Abner Mares have been teasing a bout against one another. Farmer is not worried, however, seeing how they are contractually obligated to fight again.
“I’m not really worried about it,” Farmer stated to Boxing Scene. “A contract is a contract. That’s what we signed. We’re definitely fighting again. I wanted to do it right away. I talked to my lawyer (Traci Bransford) right after the fight and I told her to get on it. That guy is not better than me. He was better than me that night. I wasn’t as good as I am that night.
“So, we definitely want to do the rematch immediately. The minute we are able to get back to boxing we’re definitely doing the rematch and I will win.”
Farmer won the title against Billy Dib in 2018. He defended it four times before the mid-week bout with Diaz. Since losing to Jose Pedraza in 2012 “American Idol” has gone 23-1 with one no-contest.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is unknown when any of the three fighters will appear in a ring again. Several promoters have been trying to bring boxing back one step at a time, even with no fans. Speaking on the Ak & Barak Show, Farmer wouldn’t mind fighting without an audience, as long as he was getting paid to do so. It is all about the situation at hand.
“Right now it’s gotta be about the family and to provide,” Farmer stated, via Bad Left Hook. “You can’t let ego not allow you to provide for your family. If you’re gonna get paid good money with no fans there, I don’t see a problem with it, to be honest.”
Should Farmer get a rematch right away against “JoJo” Diaz?
