Fedor-Sonnen Semifinal Booked for Oct 13

After October 13, the MMA world will know the participants that will fight to determine the new Bellator heavyweight champion.

Per MMAJunkie, the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinal between Chael Sonnen and Fedor Emelianenko has been booked for October 13 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York. This fight will take place one day after a Bellator card at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, headlined by the other semifinal featuring Matt Mitrione and Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader.

Emelianenko has won three of four since coming out of retirement, knocking out Frank Mir in 48 seconds in a first-round tournament match back in April at Bellator 198. This win was a rebound following Emelianenko’s first-round TKO loss to Matt Mitrione back at Bellator NYC — Emelianenko’s Bellator debut.

Sonnen defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson back in January at Bellator 192 in the tournament’s opening bout. It was Sonnen’s first heavyweight contest after years of competing at middleweight and light heavyweight. The win also gave Sonnen back-to-back wins for the first time since 2012.

This will be Bellator’s first-ever event at the Nassau Coliseum, and its second event in New York following the promotion holding Bellator 180 & the Bellator NYC pay-per-view back in June 2017 at Madison Square Garden.
