Fight Between Michael Conlan and Miguel Marriaga Confirmed For August 6

Michael Conlan (16-1, 8 KOs) will look to put his recent defeat behind him as he tackles Miguel Marriaga (30-5, 26 KOs) on August 6. The featherweight fight comprising 10 rounds will take place at Belfast’s SSE Arena as part of the city’s annual Féile a Phobail festival.

Colombia’s Marriaga will look to put a dent in Conlon’s world title ambitions after the Irishman suffered the first loss of his professional career. Marriaga has also tasted defeat in recent times, losing two of his last six bouts.

The 35-year-old lost by a wide margin against Eduardo Ramirez less than half a year ago on the Gervonta Davis-Isaac Cruz undercard. However, Marriaga looks to put all his bad habits behind him and capture the form that got him three world title shots between featherweight and super featherweight.

In 2015, Marriaga gave Nicholas Walters a run for his money before landing two further opportunities in 2017. He suffered another points loss against Oscar Valdez before getting battered and bruised by Vasiliy Lomachenko in seven rounds.

On the other hand, Conlan wants to make a statement win after his epic loss against Leigh Wood three months ago. A professional win for the 30-year-old in August will be exactly what he needs.
