FIGHT SPORTS Exclusive: Dina Thorslund Defends WBC, WBO Bantamweight Titles vs. Mary Romero

Dina Thorslund defends her WBC and WBO Bantamweight Titles against Mary Romero this Saturday, live on FIGHT SPORTS, subject to certain territories.

Thorslund is undefeated with a record of 20-0. She unified the belts with a win over Yuliahn Luna. The Dane has only had one fight outside her country as she returns to the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.

Thorslund was meant to defend her belts against Seren Cetin, but the Turk withdrew after a sustaining a cut over her eye in sparring.

Romero takes her place, whose record stands at 9-4. The Spaniard is not in the best of form, having lost two of her last three fights. But Romero did win her last bout, beating Jasmina Nad on points. FIGHT SPORTS caught up with Thorslund for an exclusive interview.

Key Quotes

On staying undefeated: “That means everything at this point. I’m not up-and-coming. I have [had] a great career, and I want to end it successfully. It is important to keep that 0.

On her goals: “That [undisputed] is the main goal and has been for years. Hopefully, I can unify some more and maybe get the undisputed [fight].

How many fights she has left: “Oh, it’s hard to say. I think it’s difficult to set how many fights. It depends on how easy it is to get them in the ring.

Changers to her training camp: “This is the first time I have my leave from work. So, this is the first time I can only concentrate on boxing. I can feel a big difference.

Favorite part of fight week: “The excitement and, you know, you have to get into the ring soon, and you’ll see your opponent and all the hard work is done.

On the pressure: “I always feel pressure walking into a fight, whether it’s to unify or defend, because I think the pressure is a lot from myself. I have to do my very best every time. But also, I know I have done this many, many times….[That] always ignites me because if you don’t feel pressured by a world title fight, then you should quit. I think you should have some fire in you.

On her future goals: “To fight the WBA or IBF champion. That is the wish I have for my next fight. But also, I’m very much paying attention to this fight. So I always say what I want, but this fight, the next fight, is the most important, and I have to win that before I can make plans for the other ones.
