FIGHT SPORTS Weekender: Schilling, Wilnis Ready for Battle at GLORY 24
The weekend is here, FIGHT SPORTS fans, and that means bells are about to be rung.
This weekend’s schedule may be light on quantity, but it is surely heavy on quality. The weekend’s main attraction is GLORY 24 DENVER.
The event’s headline tilt features a pair of top-ranked middleweights vying for an opportunity to stake their claim for a title shot. American Joe ‘Stitch ’em Up’ Schilling was originally slated to face reigning middleweight titlist Artem Levin, but the Russian was forced off the card due to injury. Instead Schilling will take on Dutchman Jason Wilnis.
Schilling has not fought in the GLORY ring since February, when he took a decision win over Canadian Robert Thomas at GLORY 19. Wilnis, meanwhile, was last in the GLORY ring in April, and came up short against recent title challenger Simon Marcus in the contender tournament final.
Also on the main card, there will be a four-man, heavyweight tournament that will reward the winner with a title shot against champion Rico Verhoeven at GLORY 26 in December. Australia’s Ben Edwards faces off with Jahfarr Wilnis, the older brother of Jason, while recent title challenger Benjamin Adegbuyi will face a tough test when he faces Croatian Mladen Brestovac in the tournament’s other first round battle.
GLORY 24 will air live from Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus on Spike TV starting at 9 pm EST.
