Fights For Alvarez, Rivas Looking To Take Place This Summer
As Top Rank continues to hold hope that they will be able to produce events in June, there is an ongoing question as to which fighters will be involved in those plans. Bob Arum has been adamant that fighters like Tyson Fury will not be fighting without an audience. The fighters that may be available, however, could be some top talent waiting for their shot at glory.
Yvon Michel recently told TVA Sports that there may be a plan in place to bring in Eleider Alvarez and Oscar Rivas for separate attraction bouts.
“They (Top Rank) contacted us about Eleider Alvarez and Oscar Rivas. For Alvarez, we are looking for mid-July for his fight against Joe Smith, if things are progressing in the right direction, obviously. [Top Rank will] find the right way to organize events that will be safe for all participants,” Michel stated, via Boxing Scene.
Top Rank is looking to follow the lead of the UFC, who recently held UFC 249 this weekend. The promotion is also holding events on May 13 and 16 in Jacksonville, Florida. If the promotion continues to abide by the proper safety procedures they are conducting without issues, it may open the door for Top Rank to join in.
Alvarez (25-1) last fought in January, beating Michael Seals via KO in the seventh. He won the WBC Continental Americas Light-Heavyweight Title in the process. A former WBO-Light Heavyweight Champion, Alvarez lost the title to Sergey Kovalev back in February 2019. He is hoping to reclaim the belt, which has since been vacated after Canelo Alvarez beat Kovalev for it back in November.
Recently signing with Top Rank, Rivas (26-1) is looking for his first fight and win since losing to Dillian Whyte back in July. The fight was for the vacant interim WBC Heavyweight Title. A NABF Heavyweight Champion, Rivas has 18 wins via knockout and is looking to make an impact whenever he can get his moment.
Who would you like to see both fighters face?
