Brandon Figueroa snatched victory by stopping Nick Ball in the final round to secure the WBA Featherweight Title from the champion.
Ball started the fight well, finding a home for his left uppercut that repeatedly hurt Figueroa. Despite being the smaller man, Ball’s hand speed and timing were superior. By the midpoint of the fight, Ball appeared to be comfortable. The momentum began to shift in the eighth and ninth rounds.
Figueroa began to back Ball up, digging deep to the body and forcing the champion to fight under constant pressure. By the tenth, Ball’s nose bloodied. Heading into the championship rounds, Ball appeared to regain some control in the eleventh, landing the sharper, more impactful shots.
Ball looked poised to retain his title, however, Figueroa landed a left hand that sent Ball to the canvas in the final round. Though Ball showed immense courage to beat the count, he was visibly shaken. Sensing the finish, Figueroa swarmed the champion with a barrage of power shots. As a dazed Ball was driven through the ropes, the referee stepped in to wave the fight off.
