Filip Hrgovic Withdraws From Canelo-Dmitry Bivol Undercard Fight

Matchroom Boxing is searching to replace an opponent on one of its undercard fights for Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol on Saturday.

That opponent would be Filip Hrgovic, who withdrew from his IBF final eliminator fight against Zhilei Zhang after the death of his father, Keith Idec and Dan Rafael reported.

Hrgovic went through a lengthy search for the final eliminator, which would sent up for a mandatory shot at the winner of the upcoming rematch between champion Oleksandr Usyk and former champ Anthony Joshua.

Seven other heavyweights turned down the IBF’s invitation for the fight due to injuries, scheduling conflicts or other reasons.

According to IBF rules, their match must be rescheduled for a later date, but Zhilei reportedly wants to fight on Saturday night.

Hrgovic’s father reportedly died in early April.
