Florida Sheriff’s Deputy Luis Hernandez Impresses in UFC Debut
Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy Luis Hernandez (9-0) made an impressive UFC debut Saturday, submitting Sedriques Dumas (10-6, 1 NC) in just 57 seconds of the first round.
Hernandez accepted the Las Vegas fight on two days’ notice, only 11 days after earning his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. He collected a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his victory.
The 30-year-old replaced Mickey Gall after Gall withdrew from the scheduled middleweight matchup. The fight was subsequently moved to light heavyweight, with Hernandez weighing in at 204 pounds and Dumas at 197.
Hernandez hurt Dumas with an overhand left before closing the distance and securing a standing guillotine choke to force the submission. The victory extended his unbeaten professional record to 9-0, with all nine wins coming by stoppage.
His previous appearance came September 15, when he submitted Hugo Guillon in the second round of Dana White’s Contender Series to secure his UFC contract. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz subsequently congratulated Hernandez, praising his discipline and determination.
Following his UFC debut, Hernandez expressed interest in returning to the Octagon before the end of 2026, potentially competing at welterweight.
