Forbes Names Canelo Alvarez As The Highest-Earning Boxer
According to Forbes‘ latest report, Canelo Alvarez remains the top earner in boxing.
Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is no longer professionally competing, the Mexican has taken on the mantle of the ‘cash cow.’
His status as undisputed-super-middleweight champion has gone some way in contributing to that.
“Forbes’ on-field earnings figures include all prize money, salaries and bonuses earned between May 1, 2022, and May 1, 2023,” Forbes
It is alleged that his earnings from May 2022-23 amount to $110 million, making him the fifth-highest-paid athlete globally.
A huge slice of that was made up from his fights with Dmitry Bivol and Gennadiy Golovkin, which reportedly grossed $100 million.
Meanwhile, the $10 million came in from endorsement deals which included ‘I CAN’ and ‘Canelo Energy,’ to name a few.
Top Five Earners
Cristiano Ronaldo: $136 million
Lionel Messi: $130 million
Kylian Mbappe: $120 million
LeBron James: $119.5 million
Canelo Alvarez: $110 million
Nevertheless, this may change moving forward. Canelo faces John Ryder on May 6th, 2023, as a loss could damage his star power moving forward.
Not only that but since Gervonta Davis has been labeled the ‘face of boxing’ following his win over Ryan Garcia, Canelo’s earning potential could change. Time will tell.
