Former Bellator Champion Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Partner
A former two-time Bellator Featherweight Champion has been jailed.
Daniel Straus was arrested on Friday, February 5 in Florida. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Straus’ arrest. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel obtained jail and court records. The bond is set at $100,000 for Straus.
Straus’ attorney, David Kubiliun, said the $100,000 bond is “tantamount to no bond.”
MMAJunkie.com received the arrest affidavit, revealing that Straus allegedly stabbed a female victim multiple times with a “sharp instrument.” The affidavit also claims that Straus and the woman have been involved in “an on and off intimate relationship” over the past three years.
The woman claims that her and Straus began arguing over text on January 21. She says Straus showed up at her job to further discuss the matter. The victim then says she went into her vehicle to leave but Straus entered and initially refused to make his exit.
The argument continued outside the car when Straus allegedly pushed her. The woman says she pushed him back and was struck several times by the former Bellator Featherweight Champion. The victim claims Straus fled in his car and she went back to her vehicle.
The woman says Straus called her and said he was at her apartment. The woman drove to Straus’ residence in hopes of obtaining her spare key. She claims Straus threatened to stab her when she asked him to give her the spare key. Once Straus was in his residence, he allegedly stabbed her with a “sharp instrument.” The female says she couldn’t describe the weapon used due to the speed of the attack.
