Former Boxing Champion Victor Ortiz Sees Sexual Assault Charges Dropped
The sexual assault charges against former WBC Welterweight Champion Vitor Ortiz have been dropped.
Back in 2018, Ortiz was expected to take on John Molina Jr. in the main event of a PBC card set to air on FOX Sports 1. Things took a dark turn when Ortiz was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault just five days before the fight.
TMZ Sports obtained court records revealing that the charges against Ortiz have been dropped. The reason given is that prosecutors couldn’t prove that Ortiz did commit this crime.
Ortiz released the following statement after the case was formally dismissed.
“Although I was confident this would be the result, this still has been a terrible and unimaginable ordeal that I am relieved to put behind me. With this case no longer my focus, I look forward to picking up and advancing my boxing and entertainment careers. I can’t wait to get back in the gym. I also look forward to spending my time with my two young children, my family and loyal friends without the weight of these charges hanging over me and my loved ones.”
Ortiz can now focus on the sweet science again without worrying about legal issues. His last bout took place back in February 2018. He fought Devon Alexander to a majority draw.
