Former Boxing Title Contender Viviane Obenauf Arrested In Connection With Husband’s Death
Former world boxing contender Viviane Obenauf is suspected of killing her husband.
The Daily Star first reported that Obenauf has been arrested in connection with the killing of her 61-year-old husband in Interlaken, Switzerland. Due to Swiss privacy laws, the victim has only been identified as Thomas. Obenauf is being accused of beating her husband to death “with a blunt object.”
Police have been searching a gym owned by Obenauf as well as the apartment rented by Obenauf and her husband. Obenauf and her husband married back in January.
Blick reports that Obenauf had a run-in with the law previously. She reportedly punched a man in the face after he allegedly groped her back in 2016. Obenauf spent several hours in jail as a result.
Obenauf retired after her November 2019 unanimous decision loss to Terri Harper. This was a failed bid for the IBO Super-Featherweight Title. Obenauf also fought a young Katie Taylor back on December 10, 2016. Taylor won the fight on points. It was just Taylor’s second pro boxing match.
While she fought bigger names in Taylor and Harper, Obenauf had perhaps her biggest boxing match back on December 4, 2018. She took on Maiva Hamadouche for the IBF Super-Featherweight Championship. Obenauf lost the bout via fifth-round RTD.
While Obenauf didn’t capture a major championship, she did become the WBF International Lightweight and WBA International Super-Featherweight Champion.
