Former Jets Linebacker Anthony Wint Scores 34-Second KO And Earns UFC Contract — Dana White Says Raiders All-Pro Maxx Crosby Could Be A UFC World Champion
Former New York Jets linebacker Anthony Wint (7-0) made a successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, scoring a 34-second knockout and earning a UFC contract.
At 5-foot-11 and 231 pounds, Wint is shorter than many heavyweights but brings the athletic background of a former professional football player.
On August 11 in Las Vegas, Wint entered the META APEX with six professional MMA fights under his belt for a bout against Matt Adams (6-3).
Wint made quick work of his opponent, taking Adams down before finishing him with ground strikes just 34 seconds into the opening round. UFC CEO Dana White awarded him a contract following the performance.
For White, Wint’s success highlighted the potential for high-level football players to cross over into MMA, as Greg Hardy, Matt Mitrione and Ovince Saint Preux have done in the past.
White also singled out Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro Maxx Crosby as an athlete he believes could have succeeded at the highest level in MMA had he trained in the sport from a young age.
“When you look at a lot of these guys that play in the NFL … imagine if Maxx Crosby trained in MMA since he was a kid, he would be a world champion right now. I believe that to my core.”
Dana White’s Contender Series returns on August 18. Season 10 consists of 10 Tuesday night episodes and began on August 11.
