Josh Hokit is fresh off his win this past weekend over Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250, and he is already receiving high profile call-outs, most notably from former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill.
On Sunday evening from the South Lawn of the White House, Hokit controlled the majority of the fight against Lewis, the UFC’s reining knockout king, and eventually finished things late in round two. Hokit’s antics throughout fight week and following his White House win have got a reaction out of people, for better or worse, and he has essentially admitted that it is simply a strategy to attract big fights, and it appears the tactic is working.
‘Sweet Dreams’ Hill has been out of the octagon since his third straight loss at 205-pounds to Khalil Rountree Jr. last June. He earned the title with a win over Glover Teixeira back in 2023, but his rein was short lived as he was stopped in his next fight at UFC 300 by Alex Pereira, who had recently moved up from middleweight.
Now, after an extended period away form the sport, Hill has announced that he plans to make a move to heavyweight with the goal in mind of becoming a two-division champion. While he did not mention a timeline during the announcement on his podcast, he did seem dead set on Josh Hokit being the opponent for his debut.
āIām going to go ahead and say it now ā Iām going to heavyweight!ā Hill said.
āIām officially going to heavyweight, itās been something Iāve been working on for the last few months. Putting on necessary weight, muscle, everything like that to move up. Wouldnāt it be better if I came back and went and won the heavyweight title? Double champ is better than two-time champ.
āAs far as Josh Hokit goes, thatās who I want!ā Hill continued. āThatās exactly the fight I want for my debut!ā
