Former UFC Champ Renan Barao To Return At Eagle FC 44

It’s been over two years since the former UFC champion Renan Barao competed in any combat event.

Now the Brazilian fighter is finally set to make his return against Horacio Gutierrez at Eagle FC 44 on January 28 in Miami.

Barao, 34, will be competing for the first time since his exit from the UFC in 2019.

Before his departure from the promotion, Barao lost five fights in a row. Since then, Barao was scheduled in at least two different bouts, but both fights didn’t come to fruition.

He was set to fight against the Ex-UFC fighter Bobby Moffett at Taura MMA 12 in November 2020, but that fight was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

And a year later, Barao was booked to fight Tyson Duckworth at Premier FC 32 but that bout was also called off after Duckworth pulled out in the last second.

Now Barao will represent Eagle FC, which is owned by the former UFC lightweight great Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Brazilian fighter will make his promotional debut against Gutierrez in the promotion’s first event on US soil in Miami, Florida.

Eagle FC has already planned to stage numerous events throughout 2022 in the United States.

The fellow UFC alum, Gutierrez went 0-2 in the UFC with losses to Enrique Barzola and Teruto before being dropped by the company. He also contested in season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America” edition.

Since his departure from the UFC, the 31-year-old Mexican has remained undefeated winning four fights on the trot but hasn’t competed since December 2019.

Barao Vs. Gutierrez adds to the list of fights for Eagle FC 44 which will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Tyrone Spong and Sergei Kharitonov.

Spong was originally scheduled to fight Antonio Silva but Silva excused himself from the fight. As a result, Kharitonov will step in to face Spong in the heavyweight main event.
