Former WBC and WBA Champion Jean Baptiste Mendy Passes Away At 57
The boxing world is mourning the loss to Jean Baptiste Mendy.
Mendy has passed away in France at the age of 57 after battling cancer. He died on August 31. Mendy amassed a pro boxing record of 55-8-3, 2 NC. He began his career in 1983 and hung up his gloves in 2000. His last pro bout was a decision victory over Pedro Garcia.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman took to his Twitter account to reveal the passing of Mendy.

Mendy captured the vacant WBC Lightweight Title back on April 20, 1996. He scored a unanimous decision victory over Lamar Murphy. On May 16, 1998, he defeated Orzubek Nazarov to become the new WBA Lightweight Champion.
