Former WBC & WBO Champ Jose Ramirez Close To Signing With Golden Boy

Jose Ramirez, the ex-WBC & WBO junior welterweight champion, is close to signing with Golden Boy Promotions after leaving Top Rank last year.

Dan Rafael said Ramirez turned down a multi-million offer to face Teofimo Lopez during Super Bowl Week. Bob Arum also mentioned Ramirez as a potential opponent for Lopez.

“I talked to Teofimo. He’s gotta get his head into it. We want him to definitely to fight this year, maybe on Heisman night. And the logical opponents would be either Ramirez or Barboza and we’ll see which one makes the most sense,” Arum said

Lopez will instead take on Jamaine Ortiz as Ramirez becomes a free agent. Top Rank refused to match Golden Boy’s offer, and Ramirez moved on. Ramirez’s record stands at 28-1, with 18 knockouts. His only loss came from Josh Taylor, who suffered his first-ever loss against Lopez.

Ramirez’s notable wins include Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey. But his inactivity may have hindered him. Ramirez has only fought once a year in the last four years. A move with Golden Boy offers him a potential big fight with Ryan Garcia. De La Hoya also has Ohara Davies under his stable, who faces Ismael Barroso for the WBA interim belt at 140.
