Former IBF junior flyweight champion Felix Alvarado has retired at 37, ending his 16-year professional career with a record of 42-5 and 35 knockouts.
“I can no longer compete at the highest level because my body isn’t what it used to be,” Alvarado said. “That is why I have decided to retire, primarily for the sake of my health.”
The Nicaraguan won the IBF junior flyweight title by stopping Randy Petalcorin in 2018 and went on to make two successful defenses.
Alvarado later moved up to flyweight and challenged Sunny Edwards for the IBF title in 2022, losing by unanimous decision.
His final bout came against Masamichi Yabuki on December 27, 2025, when he was stopped in the 12th round while challenging for the IBF flyweight title.
Alvarado plans to remain involved in boxing by promoting events in Nicaragua and hopes to open a gym for young fighters.
